Fuji Xerox is firmly committed to conducting business with careful consideration to preserving the environment and protecting the health, life and assets of its employees, customers and general public.
This means providing safe and environment-friendly products, plus information and services. It also involves a continuous effort towards improving these areas.
This philosophy has been embodied in a number of policies which are maintained throughout the entire Fuji Xerox operation.
- Awareness - educating employees, customers and the public about the environment and product safety.
- Public Service - Supporting government, industrial and social initiatives regarding the environment and product safety, while encouraging employees to take part in these activities.
- Maintaining Standards - meeting, if not surpassing all applicable government requirements, industrial standards, etc., reinforced by strict self-auditing and assessment; and maintaining international ISO 14001 levels, regularly audited at each facility.
- Improvement - actively introducing advanced technology and knowledge throughout all business processes to reduce impact on the environment while increasing product safety.
- Quick Response - acting immediately to correct incidents or conditions that endanger health, safety or the environment, and taking measures to prevent recurrences.
Aiming at zero-landfill
With available landfill sites shrinking at an alarming rate, Fuji Xerox adopted a policy of 'zero-landfill'. This is based on the '3 Rs' of recycling: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. As a result, every level of production has been redesigned to reduce wastage.
This process is called the 'Closed Loop System'. First, used products are collected, disassembled and cleaned. Then, all reusable parts are reprocessed for reuse and screened to ensure that they are as good as new. Finally, they are integrated into the production line.
The non-reusable products are decomposed into raw materials for processing into base materials - which in turn are used for production of 'new' products.
Fuji Xerox products and parts are designed to be extraordinarily durable, with recyclable/ recycled thermoplastics and metals. As such, most copiers, printers and multifunction devices can be re-manufactured at the end of their initial life cycle.
The Document Centre 265, for example, has 97 percent of its parts designed to be recyclable and 80 percent capable of being reprocessed. In time, Fuji Xerox will increase the number of reusable components within their products, aiming to make the 100 percent Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle plan a reality.
